Today while most of us have good clothes to wear, a nice house to live and a variety of choices in food. In India, 189.2 million people are undernourished, according to FAO estimates in “The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World, 2020 report.” According to this metric, 14% of people in India are undernourished. Additionally, between the ages of 15 and 49, 51.4% of women are anemic.
Additionally, the report states that 20 percent of Indian children under the age of five are wasting, which means their weight is too low for their height, and 34.7% of children under the age of five are stunted (too short for their age). Children who are malnourished are more likely to pass away from common ailments like pneumonia, malaria, and diarrhoea. Based on three main indicators—the incidence of wasting and stunting in children under 5 years, the under-5 child death rate, and the percentage of the population that is undernourished—the Global Hunger Index 2020 places India 101 out of 116 nations.
